Mmmmm Lego

Just came across this cool link: Lego Studios a bunch of movies that were apparently done with the Lego movie studio package. The Monty Python one is pretty cool.

Couple of early sports stories today - first, Denis Savard was arrested for driving under the influence Apparently the police pulled him over when they saw his car do a “Spin-o-rama” on the expressway

Second, the NFL fined Randy Moss $5000 for wearing a non-league approved ball cap on the sidelines. Somewhat bizarre, but it puts dress codes here into perspective…

Last night after work, Erin & I had an appointment with the travel agent. I made the appointment on Monday, so you’d think that I’d remember to show up…I was sitting on the bus, one stop from home, and a lady got on the bus who reminds me of the travel agent - at which point, I smacked my head after realizing that I screwed up.

Long and short of it is that we will be going on a cruise January 5th on the Princess Sun to the Panama Canal. Erin was surprised that we have to have paid for it by the middle of October, but I wasn’t really surprised by that at all. We certainly did cut the early booking discount close though…The deposit is due next Friday.

Softshoe gets topped

Well, a couple of weeks ago, this (severely intoxicated) guy comes up and does a little soft-shoe thing for us, before asking for spare change. It was pretty entertaining in a weird way, and I thought that I’d pretty much seen everything that downtown has to offer after that.

Well, I was wrong. Today, there were 10-15 of us sitting on a little concrete wall on 2nd ave during coffee break, and this guy comes up to us carrying a clipboard. We figured that he was some sort of pollster or something, which of course turned out to be a little off base.

He said “I’ve called you all here today…” at which point he realized that he didn’t have everyone’s attention, so he started again. “I’ve called you all here today…” at which point one of the other guys who was sitting with us interrupted him with a question (I don’t remember what it was).

“There’s a spaceship coming to Saskatoon…” he said before being interrupted again.

“Can I be the captain?” shot back one of my co-workers.

“You have to marry her.” the clipboard-man said, pointing to another coworker.

After a little bit more of an exchange, clipboard-man told us that we were all aliens, and walked away. I don’t really know what his point was, because he was interrupted so often, but I kinda wanted to hear the man out. He seemed pretty coherent, and didn’t appear to be high, or drunk. I kinda wish that he’d been allowed to speak his piece, if only to find out what he was thinking.

It all happened pretty fast, so I’m sure that I got things out of order, and left some things out, but that’s what happened.

It was kinda surreal, anyways, not your typical experience for downtown Saskatoon.

Welcome to my new home on the web

This is the first entry on my new web page, dunno if anyone’s going to bother reading it beyond today, but I hope to keep it relatively well updated on a 3-4 times a week kind of basis.

The topic of today’s post? I don’t remember. I had a great idea this morning on the bus, but it currently escapes my memory.

Erin & I are going to Edmonton (Alberta Canada) with some friends the weekend after next, I’ll be staying at the West Edmonton Mall, and Erin’s going to stay at her grandparents place. I think we might be looking at laptops when we’re there. I don’t know if we’ll actually buy one, but if the right one strikes our fancy, then it’s a definate possibility.

Why do we want a laptop? Couple of reasons, actually. First, it will complement the digital camera quite nicely - a portable place to unload the pictures, without such restrictive size limitations - the 340Mb microdrive is plenty of space most of the time, but I anticipate that we’ll fill it up quite quickly when we’re on vacation this coming winter.

Secondly, it would be nice to be able to do some book-keeping type things on the computer without having to sit in the computer room to do it - while watching TV, we (Erin) could enter reciepts into Microsoft Money, to keep track of our finances. Currently this task keeps getting behind by a couple of months, at which point Money isn’t all that useful :)

What made us think about a laptop now? I don’t really know. We went to a used computer shop nearby a couple of weeks ago, and were kinda surprised at how expensive even the used laptops were. Then I read an article online about how sub $1000 (US) notebooks are making inroads, so I went and priced out a notebook at Dell and was surprised to find that I could pick up a new notebook for around the same price as some of the old clunkers at the used shop.

I really have to work on my design skills, cause as of right now, this is one ugly page :) I’m hoping to use Cascading Style Sheets to pretty the site up, but it’ll likely take a while until I’m comfortable with how it looks.

Ok, I’ve written enough for now - if my brilliant idea comes back to me, I’ll put up another post later today.
