Apparently Google has extended their Usenet archive back to 1981 - 700 million messages archived. When I heard this, I went to check it out, and see when the earliest appearance of me was. Turns out it was Feb 8, 1994. Anyways, the purpose of mentioning it is that I came across another post with my name in it: This guy knows what he’s talking about.

From back when I was a FidoNet point off ‘The Shack’ BBS, 1:140/60.6 back in 1991. A local sysop had setup a usenet -> fidonet gateway for a few newsgroups.

Interesting. I never even thought about the Shack. I vaguely recall that being set up (Was that the one run by Richard Bonebreak?) but I don’t really remember much more beyond that.
Now, if they had Fidonet acrives back that far, that’d be a different story entirely :)

Yes, the Shack was run by Richard Bonebrake. I think it was more or less sponsored by Radio Shack. The usenet gateway was on the local BBS the Weyr.
There’s gotta be echomail archives somewhere..
