Wireless Gretzky.

Wayne Gretzky had a pretty emotional news conference the other day, after watching the “liberties” that Hamrlik took with Fleury. Can’t say that I blame him at all. The funny thing about it is that I haven’t ever really considered Wayne a great Canadian Patriot…The guy lives in the US after all. It just seemed a little odd to me. Don’t get me wrong, good for Wayne, and hopefully he’s created the “us vs. the world” attitude in the locker room, because that should fire the boys up really well. It just didn’t seem to fit my mental image of Gretzky. Don Cherry I expect that from, Wayne Gretzky, I don’t.

Another interesting thing happened on Monday night. The wireless bridge (SMC 2655W EZ Connect) and wireless network card (Orinoco Silver) arrived from NCIX. Boy was it easy to set up. All I did was plug the bridge into the wall, run an ethernet cable to it, and plug the network card into the laptop. Windows XP recognized the hardware, installed drivers and stuff, all while I was getting changed in the other room. I was greeted with a “Windows has found a wireless network” message, which I clicked on, chose to connect to the network, and I was browsing the web. It went even easier than I thought it would. Good stuff. Last night I set up the encryption and MAC filters, so that nobody can simply “sniff” the traffic between the WAP and the laptop, plus they can’t connect to the WAP either. I know the 64 bit encryption isn’t perfect, but at least it’s better than nothing.

There is something strange about browsing the web with no cables connected to your machine. For example, last night I wanted to look something up on IMDB about a show that we were watching (just to confirm an actor’s name) Normally I’d have had to walk into the computer room, boot up the computer and wait for a bit, then do my search. Not so last night, I just picked up the laptop, and did my search. It was still kinda strange.

The game tonight is pretty late, so I don’t think I’m going to host. If they win, the next game is Friday at 1:00. Bummer? Not really, cause I booked Friday off a while back. That means that I will be hosting that game, assuming of course that Canada wins tonight (Go Canada!)
