Is it real, or is it Memorex?

I came across this link this morning: Find the Boeing. Kinda creepy in a tinfoil hat kind of way.

On a totally different side of that coin, I also came across a link for the Museum of Hoaxes. Lots of fun reading there about historical hoaxes and practical jokes. I like the Burger King “Left Handed Whopper” one particularly.

This will be my last post for a couple of days (well, likely until Tuesday) cause I’m taking a long weekend. Hopefully you can keep yourselves occupied while I’m gone.

Simpsons quote of the day: “In episode 2F09, when Itchy plays Scratchy’s skeleton like a xylophone, he strikes the same rib twice in succession, yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we to believe, that this is some sort of a (friends snicker) magic xylophone or something? Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder.” - some random guy in the audience.

Taste the Rainbow of chocolate flavour

Apparently M&M’s are available in “custom” colours. You can order a bag of a single colour of M&M’s from this site. They’ve got 21 different colours available to choose from. Pretty cool - it’s $3.99 a bag (I assume that’s US)

I went to Mom and Dad’s last night and played a game of Curling against Darren. That is a fun game. I don’t know if it’s $45 fun, but it is certainly addictive. It’s like watching curling on TV, except you get to call the shots (making the shots isn’t that difficult, it’s all in the calling them) I got smoked, based on a couple of missed shots - one where I called the wrong turn by accident, on a wide open draw for two, and wound up drawing to the side boards. The other one was a bad end all around, and I wound up giving up a steal of three (when I was trying a bump against two, and accidentally bumped one of Darren’s rocks instead, and the game was over)

Lots of fun.

Simpson’s quote of the day:
Female Announcer: “What’s this? Two young Yankee Doodles have turned this match into a dandy!”
Male Announcer: “Ha ha ha. Both our viewers must be thrilled.”

Rock on…

I got sent a link to a really in depth Curling Game - I haven’t had much time to play it, in fact I haven’t even played a full end of it, but it looks quite well done. There’s a free 21 day demo available at that site, after the 21 days, you have to buy it, or forget about it :) Apparently Folks carries it in normal stock though, so if you’re really interested, you don’t have to buy it online or anything (if you’re in Saskatoon)

I had some really weird dreams last night, though examining them in the light of day they don’t seem that weird at all (which is weird in itself.) I dreamt that I was taking a class with Erin, and we ran into a girl that I went to high school with. I hadn’t thought about this girl since probably first year of University, when we had a class together, so it’s pretty strange that she’d make an appearance in my dream. Then, all three of us were at a hospital, and the girl from highschool was having a baby, and I was holding a different (non-newborn) baby. I don’t know what that means. No, seriously, I don’t know what that means. The whole time I was in that dream, I kept thinking how this was one strange dream, and I kept trying to get away from the center of whatever room I was in at the time. Ok, so it was kind of weird. I had another strange dream last night, but I didn’t write it down, and now I’ve forgotten it. Probably for the best :)

That’s something I don’t recall hearing about before…

Alias|Wavefront, the people responsible for the software behind the best Computer Generated special effects - have decided to release a free “learning version” of Maya. That’s right. Free. Gratis. No Charge. [Checks calendar - nope, it’s not April 1st] If you’re interested, you can check it out here.

I couldn’t believe it when I heard it. Their servers are a little bogged down with the demand right now, so have patience, and try again later if you can’t get it right away.

Wow.

Anyway, that kind of overshadows what I did all weekend, which was play with OpenBSD. I managed to get it installed, and running (in fact, you can look at Friday’s version of this page running on my own personal server right here.) I’m not really sure why I did it, but it was a lot of fun. Hardly any cursing at all. Honest. Ok, so there was some cursing about a missed hyphen in a configuration file that caused all network connectivity to fail, but other than that, there was no cursing. What, you don’t believe me? I promise to do less cursing when I work on my OpenBSD machine in the future.

Other than that though, Erin and I spent a pretty uneventful weekend, mostly just sitting around doing nothing. I spent altogether too much time working on the OpenBSD thing. I don’t think I even left the house all weekend.

That’s cold Jay…

It’s freezing outside today. It’s not too bad really, except because of all the buildings downtown, the winds really whip at high speed. It’s probably only -5C (actually it’s -19C) but with the wind it feels like absolute zero.

Looking forward to a relatively relaxing weekend. I’m hoping to get my desktop computers all fixed up and ready to go - I stripped the one practically bare, in preparation for installing Linux on it to play with hosting this site myself. Then I took all the parts and jammed them into the other computer, which now doesn’t boot. I think I’m going to have to remove them one at a time to get it working. The linux-bound box should be set up this weekend, though I might have some fun trying to configure the router to let me through. First, I have to give the server a static internal IP, then open the appropriate ports. Shouldn’t be too bad, but I might have to work on getting the server set up. It’s been a long long time since I’ve played with Linux, so what little I did know is now long forgotten. I look forward to learning it all over again.

Neat “game” that I came across

Try out ProgressQuest. It’s a great RPG :)
