That would be a green thumb.

Erin and her Aunt were quite busy in the garden a couple of nights ago, and got all the plants planted. Well, not all the plants - there are still some celery and lettuce plants sitting on the kitchen table, likely until tonight when I suspect Erin will get them planted.

This morning at about 1:30, Erin woke me up by fumbling around with my alarm clock. Apparently I’d forgotten to turn it on before falling asleep. Anyway, I flipped the switch to turn it on(while still mostly asleep) then went back to sleep without a second thought.

Who cares? I do. You see I’ve got this “new” alarm clock that has two alarm settings. Turns out that while I normally have it set to alarm 1, at some point it got switched to alarm 2. Alarm 2 happens to be set for 12:00. That means that my alarm didn’t go off this morning. Fortunately for me, I woke up in plenty of time anyway, and didn’t even have to rush to get out the door.

Now I get to go to a presentation where all the decision-making people will abandon me with the sales sharks half an hour in. They’ve got another more important meeting they have to be at, and well, somebody has to stay - might as well be me :)

Cause Mate-toss was fun!

In recent months, several classic games have been remade, re-released, and re-done. For example, Spy Hunter and Pong. I was thinking about some classic games that really need to be re-made. The first one on my personal list, would have to be Caveman Ugh-Lympics. There was a game that was both fun, and hilarious. For that matter, there haven’t really been any good caveman games lately. I remember playing BC: The Quest for Tires, and Grog’s Revenge, and enjoying them immensely. I think they (who are “they” anyway) need to make more caveman games. Forget all this hyper-realistic super-strategic stuff, I want to hit someone over the head with a club while they’re trying to make a fire.

I suppose that’s what wrestling games are for.

Granted, Caveman Ugh-lympics took advantage of a popular genre (at the time) and turned it on its ear, and granted, the whole “summer games/winter games/decathalon” genre isn’t really pushing game sales figures through the roof. I still think people (people like me) would enjoy watching their little on-screen caveman running for dear life from a sabre-toothed tiger, or trying to pole-vault over a dinosaur.

So, EA, if you’re listening (which I know you’re not) - look through the archives, and update some of your great titles.

Very Very Strange

I don’t know what happened at this point, but my web server stopped at some point today over the lunch hour. I’m sure that at some point I’ll find a reason why.

The hockey game is going into overtime, which isn’t totally unexpected. I had some more stuff to post about today, but that was nine hours ago, and I’ve completely forgotten what it was.

Google finally re-indexed my site, and seems to have removed the old style archives from their index, which means that fewer searchers will find this site for the time being (until it gets re-indexed with the current link structure.)

But, none of you care about any of that…I just remembered what I was going to talk about. Erin and I went to some sort of Mennonite festival thingy at the Wheatland on Saturday. They have food, and a garage sale, and an auction etc. Anyway, I spotted a nice crokinole board on the auction, so we got a number, and waited for it to come around, thinking that we’d maybe be able to pick it up for a reasonable price… Well, it wound up at $270. Just a little out of our price range. It was a nice board, but $270 - I dunno. Anyway, then after that, I got to thinking a bit about crokinole, so I did some searches for crokinole on the web. Turns out that you can spend up to $650 for a board online (at Mr. Crokinole) Just a bit pricey in my opinion.

Speaking of Crokinole - the world championships took place last weekend, Congratulations to Joe Fulop.

Carolina just scored…Make that 7 OT wins this playoff year (out of 13 wins)…Despite the fact that I picked Detroit, I’m cheering for Carolina…Gotta keep Hasek’s name off the cup ;)

At least I didn’t have to watch the whole thing…

After a serious drubbing at the hands of the Red Wings, the Avalanche must be feeling pretty sorry for themselves. I can’t remember seeing mr. roy looking that bad. Ever.

But more than anything, that game illustrated why Carolina has no chance at winning the cup. In Game 6 against Toronto, Carolina was dominating in the third, until they scored, then they changed their style of play, and Toronto dominated them, culminating in a last minute goal. Anyway, if they pull that kind of crap with Detroit, they won’t be lucky enough to make it to OT (IMHO) Detroit has that killer instinct - when they were up 4-0 early, did they let up? Did they allow a very talented Avalanche team to come back? No, they didn’t. They continued to dominate the play, at least until I stopped watching at 6-0.

Carolina might win one or two (hell they might even win three) but Detroit will not be beaten four times by Carolina.

So, basically I’m picking Detroit [Gasp!]

Pretty depressing that this year, there have been two upsets in the playoffs (Montreal and Ottawa in the first round). That’s got to be way below average…

I ordered some games online over the weekend, they look like fun, and they were quite cheap. You might even call them cheapass (don’t worry, that’s the name of the games company that I bought them from).
