Why, oh why must you taunt me?

Try this - go to this Amazon.com page, then go to Amazon.ca and search for the same product. You’ll notice that it doesn’t exist on Amazon.ca. The same is true of Chapters (indigo, whatever) and I find it appalling.

I do have to assume that this means they’re planning some sort of special launch event thing for Canada or something, which is fine, but I’d like to be able to get my pre-order in before I forget aboot it.

I came across this link which has rules and stuff for card games that are played in various places around the world. Looks like some interesting games that might be worth trying out at some point.

Trailerparkansas

This whole posting while on vacation thing is harder than it looks.

I watch “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” regularly - record it on the 5100, and tend to watch a couple of episodes at a time. I’d say that it’s safe to say that the politics of that show are fairly left leaning. I don’t think this is only because the American right is so easy to make fun of either. Anyway, Wednesday night’s show had an author from the extreme right as the guest, and it was one of the most awkward interviews that I’ve ever seen, which was funny, just not Rebecca Romijn-Stamos funny (which was amongst the best interviews I’ve ever seen for pure entertainment value…)

So what’s my point? I forget.

Went to Macguires for a few beverages with Jason and Jason and Mandy last night, which was good. We don’t do that often enough I think.

I’m off to build a computer so that I can burn CD’s of pictures again…

Boo?

I went to get the car’s oil changed today. Boy I hate that “Great Canadian Oil Change” place - I’m not sure why I ever go there. I suppose it’s because I forget how bad it was last time. In fairness to the rest of the chain, it’s really only the one at 8th and Acadia that’s annoying to me.

When it came time to pay, I couldn’t find my credit card, and since I didn’t have my wallet, it was just lucky that I had close to the right amount of money. Still not quite enough, so I had to leave my watch, and come back with more money. I did find my credit card in my back pocket before I left, but the guy had alread rung it in as cash, so he wouldn’t take my credit card. If he hadn’t had my watch already, it would have been a different story I guess.

After that, I went to see “The Scorpion King” which is a decent action movie, though The Rock could use some dialect lessons before his next movie. Better than “Hercules in New York” at any rate…

R

I finished playing Pirates! this afternoon. Good game, though far and away I enjoyed the ship combat more than the 3rd person adventure stuff. I haven’t even fired up Giants Citizen Kabuto even once (which is the other game that I rented for the week)

I also found an interesting link (courtesy Davezilla) to Science Made Stupid Funny stuff (Note, don’t go there to study for your science exam…)

I’ll feed yer to ther sharks.

Killing time

I’ve spent a fair amount of time playing Playstation, but have also managed to do a little web browsing…Due to that, I’ve found a couple of links of interest (both from Slashdot, if you can believe it…)

First, there’s this article about GM’s plans for a fuel cell car. It’s quite ingenious really, since the fuel cell is more flexible than the internal combustion engine, it frees up the design limitations imposed by having such a large immovable engine. Instead, the fuel cell is basically flattened out to a 6″ slab, with an electric motor on each wheel - it eliminates the need for a drivetrain, long axles etc. Basically there’s way fewer moving parts, and the design is simplified incredibly. I think they should still put steering wheels in them (the current plan is for a joystick of some sort) just for familiarity’s sake. Still, it frees them up to design all kinds of different cars with the same basic mechanical underpinnings. I think this is an incredibly good design idea - one of those “now why didn’t I think of that” types of things that could change the way cars are built, sold, repaired etc. I’m pretty excited by this idea.

The second link is to this store which sells things like lincoln logs, erector set/meccano (I could swear that they went out of business - I guess someone bought the ideas) and stuff like that. I’m more putting this link here so that I can find it when I’m looking for it later. Lots of cool toys there.

Have a good day everyone - I know I will :)

Holiday part 1

Today was the first day of my week off. I played a little Playstation (Pirates!) and did a little housework. Around noon, my brother called me, and I helped him move some furniture into his new place. After that, we played a game of Settlers of Catan, which I lost quite badly. Anyway, not much going on here this week.

The script kiddie training (by IST(?) I think) was ok, though more valuable for people who know nothing about security at all (ie. some awareness of what type of stuff can be a risk.) In conjunction with that, there was a security scan done on the secure web site that I’ve been working on. The initial scan turned up some issues with the operations side (ie. not my responsibility) and that’s it. After fixing those small issues up, there were no issues found. That’s not to say that it’s totally secure, but I’m pretty confident that as long as we keep on top of security advisories for the products we’re running, we’re in good shape.

No Simpson’s quotes this week.

Likely no post today…

Today is day two of 1337 h4×0r training (well, skript kiddie training anyway) so I don’t think I’ll get a chance to make a post. Next week I’m on holidays, so my posting schedule is guaranteed to be erratic. I’ll still try to do a post a day.

That being said, the Riders were jobbed last night, first on the no-yards call, then on the ground causing the fumble call. In fairness to the refs, the plays happened pretty quickly.
