Why you no post?

I went out to Crawdaddies for lunch yesterday, and it was (as usual) delicious, but (as usual) slow. End result, I didn’t have time to post - plus I had a lot of work to do, so I couldn’t find slack time in the day to get it done.

Ultimate went well last night, we won 13-2. We had a lot more subs than them, and we ran their wheels off. Overall a very good game - for us.

After the game, Erin’s grandpa took us (Erin, her grandparents and me) out for ice cream. After we got home, I had a shower and watched an interesting football game between Toronto and BC. What made it interesting was that despite BC outplaying Toronto most of the night, Toronto’s defense held BC at the crucial times, leaving them with field goal attempts. Matt Kellet missed four field goals (including the most bizarre - only in the CFL - final play of the game) and the Lions lost the game 30-22. Don’t let the score fool you though, on the last play of the game, it was 23-22 Toronto, with BC attempting a field goal. Kellet was wide, but it looked like he was going to have kicked it out the end zone, resulting in a single, and the tie. Instead, Noel Prefontaine (Toronto’s kicker) apparently made a fantastic catch, just managing to stay in bounds, (which no camera caught apparently) then turned around and punted the ball back out to around mid-field. Matt Kellet (6′ 200 lbs) was right there, but rather than pick up the ball and get creamed by Mike O’Shea (6′3″ 245 lbs travelling at 200 mph) he let it bounce around. At that point, BC can pick up the ball, but not Toronto (except Prefontaine, who had motored his way down the field) a BC player (don’t rembmer who - Jason Clermont maybe?) picked it up, and tried to kick it back towards the end zone, but O’Shea managed to grab the ball as he dropped it towards his foot, and ran it to the end zone, with Prefontaine blocking for him. Crazy crazy play. That’s one of those quirky CFL rules that makes the game so fun to watch - NFL, the guy misses the field goal, thats the end of the game.

So anyway, I forgot to turn on my alarm when I went to bed, and consequently slept in 10 minutes this morning - I still managed to catch the bus though.

Boy they zip right by…

The weekend went rather quickly for some reason. Friday night, Erin and I went to her Aunt and Uncle’s place for her Uncle’s birthday celebration. We got home relatively late, then I stayed up watching football until the wee hours, which resulted in a rather late sleep-in on Saturday.

We watched “Modern Problems” which had decent character building (and some good jokes) early, but then quickly degenerated into a crappy movie.

Yesterday we did a little bit of work around the house, and not much else.

Oh yeah, now I remember what else went on this weekend… Friday after work, one of Erin’s co-workers came to pick up the freezer out of the basement - the payment we requested was to move the freezer that’s in the garage downstairs, so that’s done now. The garage suddenly seems more spacious, and the utility room downstairs seems a more closed in (though, it’s such a big room, it’s not a big deal.) We cleaned out the freezers as a result, and wound up throwing out some stuff that’s been in the freezer since before we moved from Wilson Crescent (three years ago now!)

Then, on Saturday, the recliner was delivered finally, so I moved the old recliner downstairs. It’s nice and comfy (I suppose it had better be…)

Coming up this week, Erin’s grandparents are going to be visiting from Edmonton. I think they’re coming into town Tuesday night. It should be a fun time, they’re pretty good house-guests to have :)

This old thing?

So, I’m sitting on the bus this morning, reading my book, minding my own business, when a woman walks up to me and says “excuse me.” I’m not sure what I said in response, since when I’m reading, I kind of tune out the rest of the world… Likely something like “yes?” anyway.

She says “I just thought I’d tell you that I really like your selection of shirts and ties”

Huh?

Kinda out of the blue, but a nice complement to my <*ahem*> keen fashion sense <*ahem*>

I said “thank you” and she got off the bus.

It’s a lot better than being told that I look like a lawyer (which happened to me one time while I was waiting for the bus)

Don’t know what else to say about it.

So, last night (July 4th, which means nothing to those of us in Canada :P) I was watching Junkyard Wars. They had the “Junkyard World Series” on, where the US champions went against the UK champions in a car crushing competition. It was a good episode, both teams had good machines that managed to work, but unfortunately all the suspense was taken out of it due to the fact it was running on July 4th. I can’t imagine any network that would intentionally re-run the US getting beaten on July 4th. I mean, ABC/ESPN wasn’t re-running the Olympic Gold medal hockey games…so despite the fact that I thought the UK team’s machine was a better design (if it worked, which it did) I knew the whole time that the US was going to win, which kind of ruined it a bit.

Maybe he should use some stick-em.

Well, Last night wasn’t a total loss for my CFFL team - I managed to get 23 points out of them. Unfortunately most of my team was playing last night, so that’s likely to be my final score, and not likely to be enough. If Calvillo could have hung onto the ball a little better, I’d have gotten two more sacks (for 4 points total) but instead he wound up fumbling the ball twice. Then, he runs the ball to the 1 yard line, and gets stopped (If he’d have made it, +6 points for me ;) and instead hands it off to “I’m the most unimpressive ’superstar’ in the CFL” Phillips twice before he managed to score. (that’s +6 points for my opponent who has Phillips, so a 12 point swing on that play…)

No big deal though, since I plan on having a much better second half of the season, leading to the playoffs. If Bishop continues to improve, I might just have to play him instead of Calvillo, who’s only gotten me 3 points thus far this year. He’ll throw the ball all day, except when he’s within striking distance of the end zone, then it’s “handoff” - “handoff” - “handoff” - “fumble” - “interception” or whatever ;) Doesn’t even have the decency to let Baker kick a bunch of field goals.

Not that I’m bitter

Nothing happening == nothing to post

Since I went to play Ultimate last night, and didn’t do much else, there’s nothing to talk about today. Well, there is the fact that Erin’s not been feeling well, but hopefully that’s on the upswing (ie. she’s feeling a little better today) I think I’m coming down with a bit of a cold too. Hopefully it doesn’t get bad.

What was that noise?

I spent the weekend actively doing very little. Erin bought me Lego Mindstorms RIS 2.0 for my birthday, and my parents bought me the Mars expansion set for it. I’ve got a little roverbot running around the house that bumps into things, backs up and turns before going off on it’s own again. After doing that 25 times, it stops and plays a little tune. Lots of fun to be had with that, especially with the book that Erin also got for me.

So other than playing with that, I spent a fair amount of time playing Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty which I beat for the second time (This time on Normal, not “Very Easy” ;)

Speaking of MGS… Apparently Solid Snake busted out of prison - Read that story if you’ve ever played either Metal Gear Solid games - it’s funny.
