What was that password again?

Like everyone else, I’ve got a lot of passwords. I try not to store them on my PDA though, since the viewing angle on it is too big. Instead, I let my computer remember the ones that I deem unimportant - the virtual equivalent of those tiny locks on luggage - I know that’s childs play for someone to break if they want to, but it’s secure enough to keep honest people honest. Quite frankly, most of my passwords are for things that don’t really need one, like web forums that I don’t post to very often.

At this point, you’re probably wondering why I’m telling you this. The reason is that I got my new computer today, and am faced with making it remember all the passwords that the old one did. It turns out that it’s not that many, and most of them I remember anyway, but when the login page showed up for me to post here, I was a little worried that I’d forgotten that password - I’ve only typed it once or twice you see. As you can see, I did manage to remember that one (as well as my password to log into the proxy server to browse the web ;)

It’s a spanky new machine - P4 1.8 Ghz yadda yadda yadda - Windows 2000, which is nice after being in NT4 for a million years (Well, two and a half anyway) The machine is nearly silent, which is spooky at first, but easy to get used to. I finally let them take away my old monitor, and I’m regretting it, since the pixels on this one are shaped funny or something. I’m sure I’ll get used to that too. I didn’t let them take my keyboard though. They’ll have to either get better keyboards, or pry this one out of my cold programming hands.

End result is that I’ve gotta spend some time setting things up the way I like them - I didn’t do that much customization really, it’s just a matter of installing some software that’s missing from our default install. Still can’t get over the quietness of this tiny little machine (It’s a Dell Optiplex GX240 according to the case badge - take that for what it’s worth)
