I may be an SOB, but I’m your SOB.

I like satire, and I like hockey, so it stands to reason that I’d like the latest edition of The Hammer (Issue 29.) They’ve called it “The Hockey Issue” - and rightly so, with such hard hitting stories as Cherry Named Ontario Human Rights Commissioner and Fantasy Hockey Fanatic Has Girl-Kissing Fantasy. Good stuff there…

I haven’t posted any screwed up Lego links in a while. How about some guys trying to build Escher’s “Ascending and Descending” out of lego.

And in case you thought I’d forgotten about all the stupid people in the world, there’s always the one about the guy who was killed by the booby traps he set in his house. “It’s very, very dangerous.” — Indeed.

Google seems to have found me again recently, so I’m getting a bunch of hits on all kinds of search requests. Nothing strange so far, but I’m going to keep an eye on it. Feel free to try and find the link to the search requests yourself (I’m not going to post it here, just to be belligerent.)

The house of Lords never had it so good.

Anyone remember Richard Garriott? He developed a game that went on to become a best selling series, and is actually still going strong (though without his involvement now…) Anyway, he’s commonly held up as one of those few success stories where one guy created a game by himself, and it was good. Well, the reason that I mention it, is because the lack of that type of game/game creator has really been seen in recent years, and some people believe that this type of effort will never really be able to create a competitive product again.

Enter Nathan Sorenson. He’s created a curling game that is apparently setting the game design world on fire. Yes, I know, there are other curling games out there, but apparently Take-out Weight Curling is going to use licensed players and all kinds of wacky things like that. Read a review if you want. I think it takes Granite that extra step. Of course it’s tough to tell without a demo available.

I’m planning to head to Regina for the football game on Sunday. Hopefully I can get tickets :)

In fact I just got off the phone with the box office, and we’re going to be in section 24 around row 50 or 51. Apparently there are quite a few tickets already sold.

So, that “funniest joke in the world” story that I posted yesterday has really gotten around - I’ve seen stories about it on several sites, and apparently even got sent a link to it by my Uncle Robert before I posted yesterday (but I didn’t check my email at home until late last night)

Don’t have time for a more in depth post, sorry.

That’s funny, I could have sworn that I post every day…

No post yesterday, as I was too busy at lunch to get around to it. Sorry.

Anyway, as for what’s new with me lately - not much. Erin and I had our first pre-natal class cancelled because of the healthcare workers strike, so I’m still unclear on how the whole process gets going. I mean, do we have to build a nest for the stork, or does it just show up at the doorstep? (warning, pathetic attempt at humour detected)

Speaking of humour, I read a story about how the funniest joke in the world was announced today. The odd thing is that it’s not the same joke that was declared the funniest in the world just a few short months ago. The story is here, and I recommend that you follow the link, since there are a bunch of jokes there, and some of them are quite funny.

Also speaking of the funny…Apparently there’s rumours of three Simpson’s movies being in the works. I just don’t know if it’s a good idea or not, but I think a comment that I heard had it right - it’s all about the d’ough.

Which Clint Eastwood movie is it?

For a Few Dollars More the CBC could have kept Ron Maclean. Personally I think it’s a good thing for him to see what’s out there on the open market for a guy of his talent. If I were the guys at TSN right now, I’d give serious thought to signing him right away. Am I upset at the CBC for not meeting his demands? No. They’re a public broadcaster, and I’m actually kind of shocked that they’re paying Cherry as much as they are. HNIC is a great institution, and it’s survived lots of big broadcasters going away, and it will survive this.

The Good - the replacement 5100 came yesterday, so we’re back to pausing TV. In fact, I sat there with the TV paused for a bit last night, just because I could. I really really missed it.

The Bad - last night I couldn’t get an IP on the laptop, so I couldn’t get on the network. I thought that maybe it was the wireless connection, but when I hook it directly into the wire, I get the same response. I’m going to slowly eliminate things all the way back to the router, which I suspect is the real problem.

and The Ugly - well, not really. I managed to finish Sly Cooper in the half hour or so that I had before it was due to be returned. It turns out that I was a lot closer to the end than I thought. Definately worth the rental, and it kind of looks like Sony is going for a “franchise” type of thing with it. Hopefully they make the next one a little longer.
