That was unpleasant…

Because of the long weekend, when I woke up on Friday and was sick, I decided to go in to work anyway. I felt fine on Thursday, so I didn’t want it to look like I was just extending the long weekend after all…

Anyway, I made it until about 9:30 before I had to lay down. Fortunately, they put together a “Wellness” room here a while back, so I went and got the key for it, and laid down for a half hour or so. Then I thought it was silly, since I was laying there shivering, feeling nauseous. I decided to go home. I got home about 10:45, went pretty much straight to bed, and didn’t get up again until around 6:00, when I had a little bit to eat. Erin’s Grandparents had arrived while I was sleeping, so I visited a bit with them, then went to bed, and didn’t wake up until 11:00 or so on Saturday. I had a headache, but otherwise felt fine. Just another one of those 24 hour flu things I guess…Can’t say I’ve had one that made me feel that bad in a while though.

So, that’s why no post for Friday. Monday was Remembrance Day, so no post then either. That brings us to today - hey, I’m posting ;)

I haven’t been back to Hapkido since last Monday, and I’m not sure I’m going to go back until the new year - it’s $130 for three months, and with all the pregnancy classes in December, I won’t be able to go a single time, which seems like quite a waste. I do plan to go back though, because I really enjoyed it, and think it will be good for me.

We watched Spiderman, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and The Princess Bride over the weekend. All good movies that I enjoyed seeing again.

I guess I should go get some food, but before I do… Boy, the Riders stunk it up in the second half. Boo to that. It was frustrating to watch, and actually soured me on watching football for a bit. I had planned to watch the Winnipeg/BC game, but I was so fed up after the Riders loss that I just played Devil May Cry instead.

What kind of sauce do you put on a tiger anyway?

Erin’s Grandparents are coming into town this weekend for a funeral, so we should get in a good visit with them. A long weekend is always a welcome break from getting up for work in the morning. If someone had told me back in highschool that I’d have my alarm set for 6:30AM, I’d have called them crazy, but that’s the case now. Of course I don’t usually get up until 7:00. I’d like to get up about five minutes earlier, but it’s going to require some serious re-training.

I have my alarm set to CBC Radio 2 (FM), which is pretty much classical music all the time. Anyway, unlike with other radio stations, when it goes off, it’s music most of the time, and obviously never commercials (I can’t stand radio commercials.) Anyway, so, the way it works is that I hear classical music, and I hit the snooze bar. At 7:00, when the snooze alarm goes off, it’s always right in the middle of the sports news, which lets me know that I absolutely have to get up. Now, if only I could get CBC to move their news up about ten minutes - ok, not likely to happen. Maybe I have to switch back to commercial radio, so that I’m motivated to get out of bed so I don’t have to hear more commercials. Nah. Too painful.

Draw a table…

I installed a little hack last night that tracks “new” posts/comments. If you have been here since I installed the hack, you’ll see a little “new” icon right next to the title. It should also work for comments, though nobody’s commented since I installed the hack, so I don’t know if it works or not.

Anyway, I’ve got a couple of minutes here, so I thought I’d tell a little tale of when I was just a young pup. I couldn’t have been more than eight years old (since I know that this particular episode occurred at Togo school) in fact, I think I was probably six or seven. The teacher gave us an assignment to do from our math book, then went to work with one of the other grades. I suppose it helps to know that there were K-3(?) in one classroom and grades 4-6 in the other…Anyway… Part way through the assignment, the question instructed us to “draw a table” with the following instructions telling us what to put in the table. None of us knew why we were supposed to draw a table for a math exercise, but after giggling about it a bit, we did it. (Oh, also, there were only 6 kids in my grade.) We each drew our own rendition of a kitchen table - some with a 3d perspective, some with 2d. I think I even drew a place setting complete with plate, knife and fork. In order to complete the next part, we each drew the kind of table that was actually required, without really knowing that what we were drawing was also a table.

I’m sure the teacher got quite a kick out of marking our assignments…

No post today

I’m heading out for lunch, so I won’t have time for a regular post. Maybe if I get back quick…

Kick, punch, it’s all in the mind.

Hapkido was fun last night. The warmup nearly killed me though. I don’t think I’ve ever done fingertip pushups before, and I haven’t done regular pushups in about 10 years (in any quantity, on a regular basis) so my shoulders and arms are pretty sore today. Really though, considering I was doing motions that I’ve never done before, I’m not very stiff. Mostly we worked on kicks, and my legs feel fine. Certainly better than they did after the first few Ultimate games of the year.

The class was relatively small - nine people in total, at least two of which were relative newcomers (one guy had been there 4 times, another guy for about two months)

There were some pretty impressive kicking skills on display by some of the more veteran students. I think it’s something that I can do, and it was pretty fun, though a good workout for someone who hasn’t done anything physical since the end of the Ultimate season (what, nearly three months ago now?)

In other news, Fahim is talking about making a BloggerAPI client based on Blog. I think this is great news, since Blog’s interface was far superior to what I’m dealing with here with b2. No offence against b2, it’s just a web page interface after all. Initially my plan was to use a BloggerAPI client to edit/post here anyway, but I couldn’t find one that works properly through the firewall here, and I kind of got used to this interface anyway. Overall, I prefer the B2 server way of doing things, but I really prefer the Blog client interface. It looks like I might get to have the best of both worlds in the very near future. Why do you care? You don’t, but that’s the way things are.

Just keep me posted m-kay?

I did some upgrades to the server over the weekend, so there might be a few glitches kicking around here. Let me know if you come across anything that looks wrong.

Montreal won big on the weekend, which is nice to see, though I didn’t think they looked all that good in doing it. No complaints about a victory over the Leafs though. I actually got to see the whole game, which is a little bit of a novelty so far this year. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve spent some quality time with the CFL lately, and caught parts of the Habs games here and there - I just haven’t seen a whole hockey game since the last time the Leafs played the Habs (I guess it wasn’t that long ago, really…)

Erin and I went to see Men In Black II on Saturday. My opinion? “Meh.” <Shrugs shoulders> It wasn’t terrible, but I don’t have any desire to see it again. Too much talking dog type of “cute” crap. We also picked up Spiderman on DVD. I watched a bunch of the special features, though not the really long ones. I really enjoyed that movie, and I’m looking forward to watching it again with Erin.

So, yeah, not a lot new with me lately. I’m planning on going to a Hapkido class, starting tonight. We’ll see how that goes. I’m hoping that I’ll enjoy it.

That’s interesting…

Apparently there is software out there that allows you to snag the shows off of a 5100 PVR, onto your computer hard drive. It requires opening the box (thus, voiding the warranty) so it’s not something I plan on trying anytime soon, but still, an interesting development. I wonder how long it will be until the HD is replacable with a larger unit <runs off and checks>

<runs back> Nope - still not possible to do it. Oh well. It’s not really a big deal, since if you could record that much stuff, you’d then have to find time to watch it.

Halloween was pretty quiet at our house again. When the first kids showed up, it took a second to register why someone would be ringing the doorbell. Incidentally they were also the last kids to show up. Yup. Two whole kids came to our door. Well, I guess technically the church youth group collecting food for the food bank came by too. Still, a pretty quiet halloween.
