Ah, the long weekend

Erin’s turning another year older on Monday, so I’m taking the day off to spend it with her. I suspect that William will also be hanging around.

I’ve been looking around for a component rack to house the receiver, DVD player, VCR etc. I hit the mall on Wednesday, and the only one that I saw was $500 - somewhat ridiculously priced for what amounts to four shelves and four posts. I think Erin and I will wind up going out this weekend to find one (that will cost us much less than $500 ;-)) Speaking of overpriced things though…I went to A&B Sound looking for SVideo cables, so that I could hook up all of the components to the projector. I knew what I needed (one twelve foot cable, and two six foot cables.) The guy at the cable counter pulled out two six footers, and told me that they didn’t have any twelve footers left. He suggested that I could buy four six foot cables and a little extender thing to make twelve feet out of two sixes. I had a quick look at the price on their six foot cables, and decided to pass on getting cables there. The next day I went to Radio Shack, and picked up all of the cables for just slightly more than the price of one six footer at A&B…I don’t fault them for selling overpriced cables (keeping in mind that the ones I was looking were their cheapest - they had ones that were more than twice that price too…) I just think it’s funny that they’ll get people to spend that, by scaring them into thinking that they’re throwing away money if they get a good DVD player and cheap cables. I’d wager that the cables I got from Radio Shack are every bit as good as the “high end” cables that A&B sells…

Playoff time fast approaches.

For those of you who have been reading this site for over a year now, this is nothing new, but for the rest of you…I’m going to set up a playoff pool once all the matchups are decided. The current plan is to do things exactly the same as last year, the pool link has been on the menu at the side all along, mainly because I’ve been too lazy to remove it. Start thinking about your first round picks early, since once the first round starts, it’ll be too late to get them in.

It looks like I’m going to have to track down some new icons, since there are some teams that missed last year that have made it this year, and other teams that made it last year will be out golfing in a little over a week (well, ok, some teams appear to have been golfing since mid December…)

I apologize for the blurriness of the photo

Do you have any idea how hard it is to photograph William smiling?

Is he strong? Listen bud.

I had a few people over last night for a viewing of Spiderman. After everyone had gone home, Erin still wasn’t home from the pampered chef party, so I decided to put up the mounting bracket for the projector (which arrived yesterday.) The whole installation process went pretty smoothly, now I just have to get the screen mounted where the projector projects, and we’ll be off to the races. No, that doesn’t mean that I subscribe to The Racing Network

Not much else new. I think I might post a picture of William tomorrow, but don’t hold me to that promise.

How do I get the accordian out of the weeds?

I spent some time playing Escape from Monkey Island over the weekend, and am still really enjoying it. It’s been a while since I’ve played a graphical adventure of any sort, even though I really used to like them a lot - Maniac Mansion and Zak McKraken were two of my all time favorites, even though I never did manage to beat either of them. I’m determined that I’m not going to let this game beat me though.

Speaking of graphical adventures, I came across a link to Adventure Game Studio and thought it looked like an interesting concept. Basically it’s a toolset that allows people to create their own graphical adventure games. Some of the games look interesting.

Erin’s going to a Pampered Chef party tonight (and taking William) That taking a baby (who’s still in diapers - see where I’m going?) to a “Pampered” Chef party - There’s gotta be a joke in there somewhere.

Raw is Iraq

I watched some of the news coverage last night, and was struck by the sheer amount of speculation that the “news” media now engage in. I’ve decided that from here on out, whenever I hear a reporter “guessing” or “assuming” or “speculating” that I will change the channel. I figure I won’t be able to watch the news for more than five minutes anymore.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again - the 24 hour news networks take five minutes of news and stretch it into 24 hour coverage.

Switching gears…We (Erin) did up our taxes earlier this week, just to confirm that we don’t owe the government a whole pile of money. Imagine my concern, when we found that I owed a bunch of money, even after counting my RRSP contributions for the year. Turns out that because she couldn’t find my contribution limit slip, the system we used counted it as zero, which meant that my RRSP deductions weren’t factored in. After finding that number, now the government owes me money, and all is right with the world.

The reason that I wanted to make sure that we don’t owe the government a bunch of money, was so that I could finally pull the trigger on the projector purchase (to go with the screen I built a while back.) According to the tracking number, it’s out for delivery today, so I expect that I’ll be playing with it tonight. It’s going to require a rearranging of the livingroom, and I’m not entirely sure how we’re going to set it up just yet. The projector mount that I ordered hasn’t shown up on the tracking number yet, so it will be a couple of days before I can get it in a permanent situation anyway.

Incidentally - since I haven’t mentioned this before - William loves the screen - I think it’s because it’s white, and framed with black velvet, for an extremely high contrast. He stares at it all the time.

In training a couple of days this week

No post of substance for today or tomorrow, since I’m in training. Wednesday is doubtful too, since I’m on a field trip.

Sorry.
