Trophy

Well, I’ve got two trophys for you today. I was going to give Katriona the bigger one, but then I realized that she’s a Leaf’s fan, so instead, I swapped them around.

Here is Katriona’s trophy for winning the draft. You have to win again next year to get a bigger one.

Here is Dave’s trophy for going from second last to second place:

Nothing to see here.

I’ve got nothing, once again. I’m thinking I should maybe take a break from maintaining this site for a while, since I haven’t had anything entertaining to write for several months now. After having made 437 posts since starting this site, I’ve run out of things to talk about for the time being. When I started this site back in August of 2001, I didn’t honestly think I’d stick with it for this long. Turns out that I did.

I still haven’t decided if I’m going to actually take a break from the site, or just think about it some more. I’ll probably post tomorrow and Friday at the very least. I might wind up only taking a week off or something. It’s something I’ll have to think long and hard about, because I enjoy writing this stuff, even if nobody reads it - and I know that some people do read it anyway.

Congratulations to the Devils

My inverse pick strategy paid off. I guess I can say it out loud now, cause I can’t jinx it anymore. I really didn’t want Disney to have the Cup, even for one year. Hopefully they manage to sell the team, and the new owner renames them to something less “mighty.” Yeah, it hurt my average, but I know that if I’d have picked NJ, that Anahiem would have won.

I’ll get around to updating the final totals at some point, but once again, we wound up well below 0.500 as a group. Pretty sad actually. I better cover it up, or we’ll all be asked to leave the country.

The Conn Smythe trophy going to Giguere was interesting. I’d have no qualms about it if he’d played as well in the finals as he did in the first three rounds. Mind you if he’d have done that, they likely would have won, so I guess it’s a moot point. The other side of the argument is that there really was no one person that you could give it to. I mean, yeah, Brodeur got his 7 shutouts, but NJ played awesome defense, and he didn’t have to make many spectacular saves all playoffs. I’d like to see them give it to a player who doesn’t even make the finals next year (ie, give it to Cujo or something after another first round collapse ;)

Weekend fun

The CFFL draft was this weekend, so I know who’s on my team this year. I didn’t get everyone I wanted, but I think I made out pretty well.

Erin and I watched three Bob Hope movies on the weekend - “The Road to Hong Kong” (1962) “Call me Bwana” (1963) and “I’ll Take Sweden” (1963). Good clean fun. The one thing that got me though, was in “The Road to Hong Kong” Bob Hope says something like “if you guys only knew how old we really are…” It got me thinking. Holy smokes, he was 59 when he made that movie. I’d have guessed maybe 45. Considering he’s 100 now and still kicking, I shouldn’t be so surprised. What’s the deal with comedians living to such a ripe old age? I mean, how old was George Burns when he died? 100. You never hear about other entertainers living to be that old. The other thing that really struck Erin and I was how much Bob Hope and Kelsey Grammer look alike.

Ok, I wasted too much time today

I don’t have time for a great post. Please forgive me. I would still like you to leave sign suggestions in the comments - I didn’t get a single suggestion yesterday.

Commonwealth: Bloody Cold

I’m trying to come up with good sign ideas for the game in November (see yesterday’s second post for more details) Probably take-offs on CBC or HNIC or something, though I did come up with one that wasn’t an acronym: “I came to watch the Eskimos and Alouettes” with a CFL symbol on it or something. Of course that won’t be very convincing since I’ll be wearing my Habs jersey, and likely standing next to someone wearing an Oilers jersey.

Erin’s got a secret project she’s cooking up, though some of you have already been tipped off. I’ll mention it here when she deems it “ready for prime time.”

This is becoming a scatter-brained post today, cause here comes topic #3. I think we’re going to order an MP3 player and a FM broadcaster thing to allow us to use it in the car. End result will be that we’ll be able to listen to “The Man Called X” in the car on road trips. At least that’s the theory.

4 - We’re planning to go to Jim and Judy’s tonight. We haven’t been there for three weeks, so I suspect that they’ll all notice a big difference in William.

5 - the Ultimate game was awesome last night. We were down 7-2 at halftime, but then made a couple of adjustments, and wound up winning the game 13-11. It turns out that they had one really good player, and a couple of average ones, while the rest of them were basically pylons out there. Once we started keying our defense a little, we dominated. I’ve got a big welt on my wrist where I blocked a throw up close and personal - the guy was trying to go deep downfield, and I was only about 10 feet from him. It stung quite a bit, and it looks nasty, but it feels ok.

I’m psyched enough for a second post today.

This event will be awesome. I will be attending.
