Here come the picks:
(1) vs.
(6) - Detroit is getting old, and they’ve had some problems in the playoffs recently. They’re still a great team, but they’re vulnerable to young, hungry teams with hot goalies. Meanwhile, Calgary is a young, hungry team, and their goalie could be viewed as extrememly hot. If Iginla can score a goal a game, and Kiprusoff can get four shutouts, they’re going to win, yes? I pick Calgary
(2) vs.
(4) - Colorado is laden with talent, and Aebischer looks like he’s a decent goalie too. BUT I’m sticking with the favorite, cause picking too many upsets gives me indigestion. I think San Jose is still not getting the respect they deserve. I pick San Jose for no reason in particular, other than to bug Avs fans
(1) vs.
(7) - The Habs have been streaky all year, and coming into the playoffs, they were on the wrong kind of streak. The Bruins let them hang around long enough to change their momentum, and now they’re looking sharp. Kovalev, Koivu and Zednik looked great all series, and Theodore was looking pretty comfortable in the last two games. It’s just a matter of time before Ryder starts putting the puck in the net too - he’s getting chances. I pick Montreal
(3) vs.
(4) - If healthy, I’d pick Toronto, but they’re not, and they won’t be any time soon. This is going to be a tough series, and the winner is going to be banged up, which looks good for whoever comes out of the other series. Already missing a bunch of key players, the Leafs are going to need a miracle on the order of 4 shutouts to win the series. I don’t think it’ll happen, so I’m picking Philadelphia
