Where did that come from?

Erin posted an update to William’s site — No pictures, it’s an update on all the crazy stuff he says now.

We go to sign the papers on the house after work today. Pretty exciting stuff (for us anyway.) We don’t get to move until the end of November though, so it’s a bit of a wait. We’re taking the camera with us, and will snap some pictures of the house to show those of you who care.

Not only did I miss it, I didn’t even think about it until this morning

Apparently there was a good football game last night, and I completely forgot about it. Apparently I’ve been a little preoccupied with something lately.

Oh, I forgot to mention, we’re buying a house. :) The negotiations have been ongoing, but barring something seriously wrong structurally with the house in question, or us being unable to find a buyer for our house, we’ve basically got a new house to move into this winter (late November possession date.) It’s pretty exciting. I won’t post any details here, other than to say that it’s right on Wildwood park, close to my parent’s place, close to shopping and busses. I think my Mom is as excited as anyone about the location (for some reason…) It’s right at the upper limit of the price range that we were looking at, but it’s a big house - two stories, with a two car garage and lots of shade trees. We were close to putting in an offer on a different house last weekend, but something made us hold off - apparently it was because something better was out there waiting for us to find it. The next step is to paint our house, and put it on the market, then we get to play the waiting game. I think it’ll be tough to wait until the end of November to move, but at least that’ll give us lots of time to get packed up and ready for a smooth transition.

Oh, and my slopitch team won another game last night, against a tough team. I managed to go 0-1 with three walks (I didn’t see a lot worth swinging at last night) and managed to make a few plays in the field. I’m getting more comfortable at first base, but I’ve still got a lot of work to do on my footwork. We lost the second game (which I sat out after the top of the first or second inning.)

Not much else new though.

Why didn’t I think of this sooner?

I have a lunch hour routine, where I load up a bunch of websites, read them for a bit, then go heat up my lunch, then finish reading the websites, then I post here. Sites that I read regularly include news sites, comics, and other people’s weblogs. One thing that’s always kind of bothered me is that even though I know what the update schedule is on the comic sites, I load them all every day via a bookmark group in Mozilla(Firefox actually.)

One site in particular updates once a week, and yet I load it M-F, simply because if it weren’t in the “comics” bookmark group, I’d forget about it. It’s a little silly, I know. Anyway, I was thinking - why don’t scriptable bookmarks exist? Well, they do. I haven’t done it yet, but I think I’m going to write a bookmarklet for each of those sites, so that they only open on the days when they’re updated. I’ll keep the regular bookmark around too, just outside of the bookmark group. That way, when Thursday rolls around, I’ll have one more comic to read than every other day of the week.

Busy bunch of days

Apparently I just dropped off the map last week. It all started when I got invited out for lunch to the “Taste of Saskatchewan” - it was good, but they changed their pricing structure - for the worse if you ask me.

We had an appointment at the bank on Friday — I don’t think that anyone really knew why — but at least we got further information on what rates they have to offer right now. We actually went out to an open house on Friday too. Over the weekend, we looked at four different houses. One of them might just do the trick, but I won’t spoil any surprises, since we haven’t decided to make an offer on any of them just yet.

Saturday night, I went to a bachelor party for Dave, a guy that I’ve known since university, and now work with. It was a good time, though I went home early because I was tired, and had to look at houses on Sunday.

Then I started falling down.

The new fan in the upstairs bathroom came with a bit of a large hole in the ceiling, which we were screwing some drywall into, to prepare for taping and mudding it etc. Anyway, I was up the step stool, and had screwed in two screws, but one edge of the drywall popped up out of the hole, so it needed to be persuaded back into it’s place. I banged on it with my fist a couple of times, and managed to punch a screw that was sticking about an inch out still (didn’t want to tighten it down until the drywall was in place) So, I’ve got a bruise on the heel of my hand. No falling down just yet.

Then last night, I had William up on my shoulders, and we were standing in the doorway between the livingroom and the front door, watching my dad do some wiring stuff. William grabbed onto the jolly jumper hook, and gave a hearty yank. This caused my upper body to move forward unexpectedly — normally not a problem, but in this case, the baby gate was in the way of me stepping forward to rebalance. I went down face first, popping the gate out of the doorway in the process, and landed on a bunch of tools and coats and stuff. Meanwhile, William apparently hung on to the hook for a split second, because he wound up landing on my legs (quite upset.) We were both ok, no harm done, just a little scary for both of us.

Fast forward to this morning. I step into the shower, and as I turn to pull the shower curtain shut, the bathmat that I’m standing on decides that it would rather be on the side of the tub, instead of the bottom. I don’t know what exactly happened, because it was all so quick, but I wound up standing outside the tub, with the shower curtain rod in one hand, and the other hand on the wall for support. My excellent balance saved me from any serious injuries.

So, I’m feeling a little beat up right now :)

As a side note - back in highschool, a friend of mine liked to greet people by sneaking up behind them when they were walking, and tripping them — he was an odd kid. On more than one occasion, he tried to trip me, but he never managed to succeed — it would wind up with me standing like a flamingo, one leg up in the air, with our feet locked at the ankle, until I turned around and he rethought tripping a guy who was 8-10 inches taller than him. I’ve always had pretty good balance for some reason.

Serious house looking house mode

We actually went and looked at a house last night. It was nice, but too small. It’s amazing how many houses there are for sale right now. They don’t last long though, so it’s a lot of work looking for the right house. We’ve decided to give a real estate agent a call, to see what it will cost us to relocate with their help. We haven’t decided that we are going to hire one yet, but in browsing through their websites, we had a few chuckles over the similarities from one page to the next.

So that’s what we did last night. Looked at one house, then tooled around various neighbourhoods looking for houses with signs on their lawns (Thank God the election is over ;))

Roomba Roomba Roomba

Erin and I have been discussing selling our house and buying something in a quieter neighbourhood for a little while now, and we finally applied for a pre-approved mortgage last week. There was one particular house that we were looking at longingly, but we wanted to wait until the mortgage was approved before we went and looked at it. When Erin called to make an appointment to view the house yesterday though, they said that they’d decided not to sell :( Oh well, as I said to Erin, there are lots of houses out there, we just have to keep looking, and the right one will turn up.

It was still a little disappointing though.

Who likes vacuuming? Roomba likes vacuuming. I think I might have mentioned them here before, but it’s tough to say. Between the posts detailing what I had for lunch, and the posts talking about why I didn’t have time to post, there’s little room for actual content on this site. I apologize for breaking that trend by linking to an automated vacuum cleaner.

What’s that doing in my lunch?

I looked down at my lunch today, and it was mouldy. That sucks, but at least I didn’t eat it and then feel sick later without knowing why. I got a bigmac instead, so when I feel sick later, I’ll at least know why.
