When I’m wrong, I’m really wrong.

it should be a good game either way

Shows what I know. That was a stinker of a game. The rain caused no less than 10 fumbles. I don’t mind a high turnover game, but I only like it if they’re real turnovers caused by good plays - forced fumbles, great interceptions, blocked kicks etc. When it’s all because nobody can hang onto a slippery football, it makes the game into more of a crap shoot. Incidentally, that’s why I don’t argue with the call to have Burris try to run the ball in from the 1 - one less person having to handle it. For what it’s worth, had that play been designed to go to Szarka, the result would have been the same - the exchange from center was where the fumble happened, so Szarka wouldn’t have ever seen the ball anyway.

And it’s not just because I have Burris on my CFFL team either.

Gameday

The CFL game tonight between Saskatchewan and Winnipeg should be a good one. Saskatchewan got the monkey off their back by winning last week, and Winnipeg has had two weeks to stew over their 0-2 start as well. I’m still picking Saskatchewan to win, but it should be a good game either way.

I burned another DVD last night, but this one didn’t turn out so good. It played back with no sound. I don’t know how much of that is my fault, and how much of it is the fault of the software I used. It was odd anyway. Fortunately I was smart enough to burn it on a DVD-RW disc, so it didn’t cost me anything - I’ll just reformat the disc and try again tonight. The funny thing is that our DVD player recognizes and plays the discs I burned without a hitch, but the DVD drive in the laptop seems to have troubles with them. I’ve only tried two discs in the laptop though - when Darren give me the other discs that I burned back, I’ll have to try them out. It would suck if the laptop didn’t like any of them.

Headshots

I did manage to catch some of the “extreme” dodgeball action last night, and I have to say — it was odd.

I mean, I expected odd, but not bodybuilders vs. jockeys, or accountants vs. mimes odd. I don’t think the gimmicks make for more entertainment value, though the mimes “plotting strategy” was mildly amusing. I don’t know if I’ll watch it again. Maybe if nothing else is on, and I have a half hour to kill or something.

Joe Schmo 2

It’s tough to figure SpikeTV out. They said that they’d air the new Joe Schmo 2 episode last night, and they did. They also said it would be 90 minutes, and it wasn’t. They are also airing something tonight, but it’s tough to say if it’ll be a new episode, or the same one from last night. Either way, it was a hilarious episode, with more laughing out loud than should be legal. Every answer that “Gerald” (Jonathan Torrens) gave during the lie detector had me in stitches. That was some quality TV right there, and they didn’t have to go to the potty to get the laughs (which is my one complaint about the show - a few too many “single entendres” beaten to death.)

If it’s not a new one tonight, I’m going to try and check out “Extreme Dodgeball” on the gameshow network instead. It looks crazy. I’m currently watching two TV shows (”Joe Schmo 2″ and “Trailerpark Boys”) and it’s amazing to me that the only other thing on TV that I want to check out is opposite one of those shows. Oooh speaking of amazing - The Amazing Race starts tonight. I guess that makes three shows. Just so you don’t think I’m obsessed with TV :) And “Area Man” - I don’t care that you don’t own a TV.

Is it real, or is it Memorex?

I burned my first DVD on the weekend (finally) - it turns out that a Celeron 366 is fast enough to burn at 2x anyways :) I burned three copies of the Christmas slideshow onto DVD, basically just to test out different media types. So far, I tried +R, +RW and -R media, and all played back in my DVD player without a hitch. I sent the +R and -R discs home with Darren, so he can try them out in his dvd player.

Overall though, it was a pretty uneventful weekend, probably mostly because — as William would say — it was “rainin’” all weekend.

Oh, and if you care, don’t forget that Joe Schmo is on tonight instead of Tuesday nights now.

The day after Canada Day

Wednesday was a retirement lunch for a guy at work, then yesterday was a statutory holiday for Canada. I didn’t stay up to watch the fireworks - I was exhausted after a late night, and an early morning, then a full day of William chasing, so I went to bed at 9:30, and fell asleep almost immediately.

Wednesday night, our slopitch team won it’s first game of the season. The other team was a little short handed, but we were hitting well, and fielding even better, so it didn’t really make that much of a difference. The mosquitos were pretty abhorrent though. I felt like I was almost out of blood by the time the game was over, and I was playing first base instead of my usual right field spot. I’d never played first base before, so it was a new experience. I had to work on my footwork quite a bit - I kept wanting to put my left foot on the base, but then my stretch was really limited. I only really blew one play, when I completely lost the ball in the sun, and didn’t see it until after it bounced off the heel of my hand and hit the ground. I kinda liked playing first base actually.
