New PC Blues
I got a new PC at work, so I’m busily working through getting it set up properly. It’s a fun/frustrating thing, because I wind up missing some tiny little piece of functionality that I’d set up on my old machine, and I have to figure out how I did that in the first place. When you’ve had the same PC for 3 years, it kind of feels like an old shoe – very worn in and comfortable.
Don’t get me wrong, I am glad to have the new faster machine, and especially the new pretty LCD monitor.
I also get to deal with new versions of some key software, which is always a mixed blessing. On the one hand, you have all the new functionality, and lots of old annoyances are gone. On the other hand, it’s not quite the same, and getting it to work like the old software did in certain instances can be tough. I think the good outweighs the bad though.

Don’t you love building a machine? It took me three days to get mine back to where it was. That includes a day of going through everything on my machine to make up a list of software to install, and tracking down all of the patches I need to keep my machine virus free (you likely have a firewall there, so you don’t have to worry about it as much, no?)
