A lot of kids pick up phrases that get repeated to them again and again. At two, this is typically related to “No.” William seems to have picked up the phrases “That is a bad thing to do” and “That is a bad idea.” He likes to say those things whenever something he doesn’t like is proposed (get dressed, change diaper, go home, go out, go to bed, eat supper, turn off the TV…) One of his other pet phrases is “Don’t steal me” which he tends to say to me when I pick him up and take him somewhere he doesn’t want to go.
He’s also getting sneakier and sneakier. Erin put something up so that he wouldn’t get into it yesterday. His response was a rather calm “Go into the TV room” command to Erin - presumably so he could climb up and get the thing unhindered.
Let’s see - what else does he do? He plays hide and seek. He’ll sort of cover his eyes, count to ten, then say “ready or not here I come” and then find people. Then he wants to do it again, but this time he has suggested hiding places. He keeps talking about his “brother and sister” and how they haven’t come yet. Oh, and whenever you say something containing the phrase “we could try” he responds with “but it will work.”
