The weekend went by way too quick. I blame Julia (who’s now 1900g, by the way) for being so cute. Erin’s been spending a lot of time at the hospital, which is good for her and good for Julia, but sometimes gets to William. He’s very much a momma’s boy. Anyway, he was pretty good for me all weekend, so I don’t really have anything to complain about. Those of you who come here to hear complaints can safely ignore the rest of this post.
I played some online poker, and actually won a bigger tournament (play money chips, but 18 people at 10K per, I wound up making some serious fake money.) I felt kind of bad about some of the hands where I’d suck out on the river or whatever, but then it happened in reverse to me quite a bit too. After losing a sizable pot to a guy who hit trip 3’s on the turn (I doubled him up) I said “nice hand” while thinking “you’re a goof for calling my top pair with ace kicker post-flop raise with that crap.” And he said “thanks.” I said “you’re welcome” and he got all snarky, and called me an idiot for calling his all in raise with “nothing” Guess he can’t read the board. No biggie, not gonna let him put me on tilt…Sat tight for a long while until the blinds were getting ridiculous, and I started stealing a few pots - I never called the BB, since at that point most people only had 3-4 BB worth of chips, so I made them make a decision, and rarely did my raise get called. One such time, I had AcJh, and the flop came Jc7c4c. I really wanted to see another card, so I didn’t bet it. Turn was another club, so now I’ve got the nuts, and I happen to be up against the guy who thought I was insane. I check, and he puts me all in, so I call. He had another one of his stupid little pocket pairs, and was notably silent about it. He still had some chips left though, so my work wasn’t done. Very next hand, I flip up As2s, and raise, only to have two guys call me - the same guy call me again and one more. “tilt” I think to myself. Flop came up with two spades, checked around to me. Again, I have nothing but the nut flush draw, so I check, hopefully laying out a trap. You know what happens next - I hit the flush on the turn, and busted both other players out on the river. One of them even had two pair. I was sitting in really good position after that, with 40% of the chips at the table. A few hands later I picked up AcKc, and wound up all-in pre-flop against #2 chip guy who had 38% of the chips at the table. He flips up Ah7h, and sucked out against me. Next hand, the blind put me all in, and I was beaten out. Still, it was fun.
