I want to hold Julia.

That’s what William said several times last night when we were at the hospital. Upon seeing her, he walked directly toward her with his arms outstretched. The third picture on her site is a small sampling of the hugging that William did last night. He even got to give his baby sister a big smooch. Obviously one of the big concerns with bringing home a second child is the reaction that the firstborn will have. To this point, it looks like William will be a really good big brother. Of course he’s always enjoyed babies, so maybe it’s just an extension of that.

Otherwise, not much time for anything else. I did play a quick poker tournament last night that was kind of fun. Second hand in, I had a small pair on the button, and the big blind raised it up to 15BB, then subsequently called by everyone at the table. Normally I wouldn’t play it, but I figured that if I hit my trips, I would easily triple up, so it was worth the risk. I hit the trips, but not only that, there was an ace, so I figured I’d have a good shot at taking some serious money on the pot. Small bet to me, chased a bunch of people out of the pot, and I called. Turn paired the board, so I had a full house. One guy bet it moderately and was called by three others, so I raised all in. Three of them called me, which had me a little worried, even though I had them all covered by a couple of hundred (see, they all played too loose in the first hand and lost some money, so I knew they were kind of loose in the first place.) Two people had aces, one guy had a flush draw. None of them hit, and I more than quadrupled my stack early. Not a very interesting story, but I had to establish the fact that I had a crapload of chips. A couple of hands later, I was dealt K10, and saw the flop cheaply, hit a pair of 10’s, but there was an ace on the board. Checked around to me, I tried to bet a little over half the pot to scare out the posers (nobody raised preflop, so the subsequent checks made me hopeful that there were no aces out) Instead of betting 90 though, I bet 920 (missed the delete key) Whoops. Not a biggie, should make everyone fold. Didn’t though. A guy with an ace came over the top. I think it was only another 300 to me, so I called him right away, even though I figured I was probably facing an ace - I still had 6 outs, so about a 25% chance of hitting one of them, which made it a cheap call to try and eliminate the guy. Sure enough, a king came on the river to put me in an even more commanding chip lead after having taken out four players in a 9 player tournament. I tightened right up after that, and managed to win it despite my betting blunders (Later I bet 60 instead of 600 etc.) It’s pretty easy to play tournament poker when you’ve got that much bigger of a stack than everyone else - the key is to not get too loose on the calls thinking about how big your stack is…

Topless, and now at a new location.

As mentioned on Julia’s page, they have her in a bassinet now. Word on the street is that they’re moving her to the Paediatric ward later this afternoon. This is very good news indeed.

William Laughing

I’m not feeling very good today, so I’m at home. I promised an mp3 of William’s laugh so here it is.

What ever happened to “spare change?”

I was hit up for “a couple of bucks” by two complete strangers in two completely different settings yesterday. I didn’t have “a couple of bucks” in either case, but what ever happened to asking for spare change? I might have been able to come up with a couple of quarters or something, but since that amount of money isn’t worth asking for, I figured it wasn’t worth getting out my wallet and looking for either. Very strange. I guess I must look like a soft touch or something.

William and I played in the backyard a bit last night. Mostly it was him hiding in the trees, and me playing with the baseball/bat trying to get him to come out. When he finally came out, he wanted to play baseball by himself (just like I had been doing) while I hid “in the forest.” He gets so giddy when he’s in the backyard playing, it’s really a delight to see/hear. In fact, I think I’ll try to upload an mp3 of one of his laughs from last night - I had the mp3 recorder on me, and I think I got something serviceable. If I don’t do it by tomorrow, remind me (if you’re interested.)

5 days? Nobody here believes that…

Supposedly the doctors have said that Julia might be able to come home later this week, provided some conditions are met. Well, it seems mighty unlikely to me that the conditions will be met by Friday (which is what they’ve said) so therefore it’s pretty unlikely that we’ll get to bring her home this week. Next Friday is maybe more realistic. That’s at least encouraging news though.

Not much news though, the weekend was fairly quiet, with some trips to the hospital (I’m so sick of that place, I can’t even begin to tell you…) and Mother’s Day Chinese food at Mom & Dad’s.

Oh, the fence is finally finished - dunno if I mentioned that or not. When we were out on Saturday, we stopped at a Dollar Store and picked up some plastic golf clubs and a baseball bat for William. He loves being out in the yard, just running around, so it’s good that he doesn’t have to be watched like a hawk to keep him in the yard now.

Sleepy. Tired. Must sleep. Zzzzzzz

The way our schedule has worked out the last three nights, I haven’t gotten to bed before 12:30, which makes me tired. Due to that, I apologize for any incoherent ramblings you may find here today.

Ok, maybe there won’t be any incoherent ramblings because I’m too tired to come up with something witty to say. Some would argue that I never have enough energy to come up with something witty. I’m only armed with the proverbial blunted stick in a battle of wits. To those people, I say: “You’re wrong.” More of a soggy loaf of bread or something.

Ah, there’s the incoherence I promised.

We ate supper on the deck last night, and that experience alone is worth the price of admission (moving/more expensive house/slightly longer commute) What a gorgeous evening, and with the trees starting to green up, and the birds singing, it was one of those moments that feels like it’ll never end. Then the sun started to set, and it got pretty chilly out there. Plus I had to come in to work for a bit to check on some things. Then we went to Ruckers so that William could run around and try to drive all the driving games (he especially seemed to like the Harley Davidson game) The beauty of it is that he doesn’t seem to care if he’s actually playing the game. The little demo loops are enough for him to pretend he’s driving.

Gameday

Tonight is the first game of the slopitch season for my team, and the weather looks like it’s going to co-operate. Good news there. I had a pretty sedentary offseason, so hopefully I’m not too sore tomorrow. Anyway, I’m looking forward to this season more than I looked forward to last season, so that must mean that I had a good time last year. The only issue is that Julia’s still in the hospital, and even once she’s home, she won’t be able to come out to games for quite some time. The fields are in the middle of the Saskatchewan prairie, so the breeze can get pretty nasty at times out there.
