Hardware Seppuku

The laptop’s hard drive has decided that we’ve been working it too hard - for whatever reason it will only allow itself to be used for maybe a half hour at a time before it hangs the computer completely. On the one hand, it’s good that we can make sure that all of our files are backed up. On the other hand, it’ll be a big pain in the butt to replace it and get the computer up and running again. Meanwhile, that’s caused me to step up the research on a desktop machine. I’m currently looking at the Antec Aria for a case, and I’m thinking that I’ll go with an AMD64 setup again - virtually the same setup as the machine we bought last year, except with a small form factor. I’ll be dropping Gentoo on it again, to see how well it copes as a desktop operating system.

At least that’s the plan for now…
