Grab the Horns by the Bull.

The playoffs are approaching quickly, so I have to get geared up for the annual tradition of the playoff pool here. I’m hoping to be able to automate part or all of it this year, but I doubt that I’ll have it ready in time for the start of the playoffs. So, once the seedings are set, feel free to post your picks here for all to mock.

It’s Easter weekend, can you escape it?

If you ever played Time Traveller (a “Hologram” arcade game) or Dragon’s Lair, or Space Ace, or games of their type, you might get a kick out of Dungeon Escape. Of course those other games were built to showcase technology, while this one… Well, let’s just say that the graphics aren’t what I’d call “state of the art.” Still neat though.

Yesterday was a big day for the CFL - not in a good way. It was the picking over of the corpse that was the Ottawa Renegades. Saskatchewan did quite well for themselves, and has to have vaulted back into contention with their new QB and receiver/returner. Training camp is coming closer and closer, so I’m getting psyched up for another great year of CFL football, even if there is one less team. It wouldn’t be the CFL without at least one dispersal draft a decade anyway.

Come see something amazing.

We took William to my parents’ place for a visit last night. As we were getting ready to go, he ran to the end of the driveway and was playing around in the puddles. Before Erin could get into the van, he said something along the lines of “I want to show you something amazing.” She went over, and he pointed out the fact that you could see the reflection of the trees across the street in the puddle. “Isn’t that amazing?” he asked.

William’s sense of wonder certainly is.

April Showers

We went for a walk to the playground last night. It was nice to get out of the house for a bit, and enjoy the fresh air. As we were walking, William pointed up in the sky and said:

“What’s that?”

“It’s the moon” I told him.

“That can’t be the moon, because it’s too light out. It must be the sun” he says to me.

“No, it’s the moon” I said.

As we walked along a little further, he chanced to look back, and saw the sun, which was still peeking above the horizon. “That’s the sun” he said. “But there’s only a sun and then the moon, not the sun and the moon at the same time.”

It was kind of fun watching him puzzle it out.

Viewer mail

After getting back into the swing of things with some posts containing links, I thought I’d do something I haven’t done in a while - respond to some of the interesting search queries that people find my site with. Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten any really good ones to make fun of. Sorry.

Anyway, Last night we took William to the preschool open house. He seemed to quite enjoy it, so we signed him up for next year. Apparently he wants to go to school today.

Jump up and down and make a splash.

I came across a link to an interesting product the other day - the Hydrofoil Water Scooter. The video on that site is pretty short. Anyway, I did some searching, and found Pump A Bike, which is basically the same thing, or the Trampofoil or the Aqua Skipper.

The one thing that the videos don’t show though, is anyone staying on them for more than a few hops - I imagne it would be pretty tiring, jumping up and down all the time. Still, it looks like fun.

Totally obsessed

William is complete obsessed with BomberMan ‘94. We have restricted him to playing only every second day, and only twice on those days for a half hour at a time. He wakes up and talks about how he’s going to play bomberman — “I’m going to be the blue guy fat guy” or “I’m going to make everyone little” It’s scary just how addicted he is. Fortunately he’s been fairly understanding of the limits we’ve placed on it, though it does cause a slight tantrum when time is up occasionally. Today is not “Bomberman Day,” though yesterday was, and tomorrow is as well.

He’s actually getting quite good at the game, though he doesn’t subscribe to the stated goals of blowing up the other guy before they can blow you up (hey, where have I heard that before?) *ahem* anyway, where was I? Oh yeah. William likes to ride the various kangaroos, and he enjoys blowing up all the blocks. He probably enjoys picking out his character and choosing a level as much as the actual playing. It’s improved his hand-eye quite a bit - in the short time he’s been playing, he went from having difficulties getting anything to happen, to having control of his guy and basically making him do what he wants.

So, that’s what’s up with William.
